Re-imagining Humanitarian Responses (010GRS)

Re-imagining Humanitarian Responses to Displacement

Module 010GRS

Module details for 2022/23.

30 credits

FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)

Module Outline

The module introduces students to recent thinking on responding to displacement.

In part 1 (weeks 1-3) we begin by interrogating the hegemonic responses mandated by powerful global institutions and state actors and the shortcomings of this ‘global response’.

In part 2 (weeks 4-6) the module will investigate ‘new’ actors and modalities in responding to mass displacement.

Part 3 (weeks 7-10) of the course adopts an applied approach. Over the course of four workshops students will be introduced to design-thinking and apply their knowledge of current responses to mass displacement to reconfigure the way in which resources are (re)distributed to displacement-affected populations. The module concludes with a consideration of what is required to bring about change in global responses to mass displacement.
