Critical Hope in Global Health: From Big Pharma to Local Wellbeing
Module 008IDSIR
Module details for 2022/23.
30 credits
FHEQ Level 6
Module Outline
In this module we deploy critical hope as a lens to explore global health and local well-
being and the role of big pharma across these contexts. What are the social and economic
conditions that weaken health systems? We ask how nations and local communities
innovatively negotiate health challenges and access to pharmaceuticals. What role does
Big Pharma play? What lessons are there for sustainable solutions to health challenges?
Through a series of inspiring case studies from the Global South and North, such as the
fight against microbial drug resistance, we explore pathways to sustainable health
futures.
