What settings should I use for file transfer when accessing my ßÏßÏÊÓƵ home directory remotely?

Staff and students can get access to ßÏßÏÊÓƵ files from home using a file transfer program. You will need to download and install a suitable program (such as , WinSCP, Fetch or Filezilla -see our file transfer guide for more details) and then connect with these settings:

  • Host name: unix.sussex.ac.uk (to connect to your N: drive)
  • Port number: 22
  • User name: your IT username
  • Password: your password
  • Protocol/method: SFTP

Windows Remote
If you're a member of staff, you might consider using Windows Remote when working away from the campus. Windows Remote gives you access to a full PC desktop from home: you can use applications such as Microsoft Office and browse files as if you were sitting at a PC on the campus. If you want to do more than transfer a few files, and have experience of using a ßÏßÏÊÓƵ PC, you will probably find this a very useful service.
