How do I get my ßÏßÏÊÓƵ email on an Android device?

Android devices can connect to the University's mail system to allow you to read or send e-mail. 

To get the best functionality from your email, you should connect to an Exchange server. However, this requires that you put a passcode on your device if you don't already have one. This is to protect your emails from unauthorised access. 

There are a number of different versions of Android, so the process for setting up email can be slightly different depending on the one being used. The following instructions are for a device running Android 5.0 lollipop. If you need any further help, you can pop along to Shawcross between 9am and 7pm, Monday to Friday in term time and an advisor will assist.

• From your Settings, choose Accounts and then Add Account.   

• Choose either Email, Corporate or Exchange, depending on your device. Enter your email address when prompted, and if necessary choose 'Exchange'.

• Enter your password if prompted, and you will be taken to a screen showing the connection settings for this account. You might need to change the 'server' to 'exchange.sussex.ac.uk'. Confirm the account options and services you'd like.

• You'll now be asked to confirm security settings relating to this account, and will need to provide permission to the email server to control the device (this only relates to email use). Provide a PIN or password, and your account is set up. You can give the account a 'friendly' name like 'ßÏßÏÊÓƵ Email' if you like. You can now access your email via the 'Email' application.
