When running Matlab, why do I see 'Warning: Name is nonexistent...' Message?

This may be because the pathdef file was created in you user profile with an older version of Matlab, than the one you are using. To resolve the issue:

  • Open Matlab
  • Type 'which –all pathdef.m' in the Matlab console and hit enter
  • If the output shows a pathdef file in you profile, such as '\\smbhome.uscs.susx.ac.uk\USERNAME\Documents\MATLAB\pathdef.m', make a note of the location.
  • Close Matlab
  • Browse to the location you noted and change the filename to pathdef.old
  • Restart Matlab
