Law
Legal Research Project
Module code: M3044
Level 5
15 credits in spring semester
Teaching method: Workshop
Assessment modes: Dissertation
This module replaces the short dissertation currently offered at Level 6, which will now be withdrawn. It creates an opportunity at Level 5 for students to undertake a short piece of independent research over the course of a Semester, adding a much-needed module to the newly developed option choices available in the Autumn semester. As occurs for supervision of MA/PGT dissertations, all colleagues will be asked to specify areas of preference for Level 5 Legal Research Project supervision, thereby ensuring the necessary support for students choosing topic/research question suitable for this level of study. With the regular 8,000-word dissertation remaining at Level 6, it makes sense for the shorter version (branded here as a ‘Legal Research Project’) to sit at Level 5. Successful completion of the module may encourage students to develop their legal research and writing further in their final year. Students who have completed the Legal Research Project (Sem 1) will not be permitted to select Legal Research Project (Sem 2).
