Funded by your generous support, the Junior Research Associates (JRA) programme provides bursaries for ßÏßÏÊÓƵ undergraduates to undertake a full-time, eight-week research project in the summer of their middle year of study.

The scheme provides a fantastic opportunity for students who already have an interest in postgraduate study to gain research experience and broaden their academic skills, as well as communicating the possibilities of a research career to those who might not otherwise consider one. One of our key aims is to reach outstanding students who may not see themselves reflected in the current research community.

Awarding bursaries ensures that the scheme is open to all undergraduates, widening access beyond those who have the financial means to support their own studies over the summer period. Additionally, a portion of JRA funding is ringfenced for students from underrepresented groups, which means your support really is going to where it is most needed.

Students from every discipline take part and comprehensive training is provided, culminating with a poster exhibition to display the students’ research findings. JRAs are also supported to apply to present at the annual British Council of Undergraduate Research (BCUR), and two JRA delegates attend ‘Posters in Parliament’ at Westminster each year, presenting their work to politicians and policymakers.
