Management of Health & Safety (Guidance for Managers)

Managers should review the Health and Safety HS G020 Reference Sheet for Managers in order to understand how best to fulfil their legal and ethical duties towards people under their supervision. Additional information on why this is important can be found in the University Health and Safety Association (USHA) Leadership and management of health and safety in higher education document.

To further assist in this the University has produced a Health & Safety Assurance Checklist. This checklist is based on the management arrangements set out in the Health and Safety Executives Managing for Health and Safety. This checklist enables managers and leaders to carry out a self-check on how your division/School is performing in relation to health and safety matters. It can also help identify whether further management action is required to comply with university policies and to ensure effective controls are in place.

Additionally information is provided on how to retain Health and Safety information within Schools and Divisions in the HS G013 Document Storage Guide.

There is also a School–Division Health and Safety Annual Plan that can help School Health and Safety Committee Chairs and Secretaries with their planning.
