Social Work Practice 2 (867L5)
Level 6
Autumn and spring teaching
The second practice learning opportunity includes a 100-day placement and the accompanying practice development workshops (30 in total over the period of two years) This placement will provide the opportunity for you to:
- undertake direct practice with service users and carers which further develop your communication skills. You should be able to use more autonomy and professional judgment, under supervision, but not hold case responsibility including responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
- work with more complex casework including assessment, case planning, intervention and review, including those challenging situations where risk is present
- to practice, wherever possible, in a different setting from the first placement with a different service user and/or carer group, including vulnerable groups.
- to apply further social work law and relevant social work knowledge, concepts, theory and research. You'll be encouraged to apply evidence-based methods of intervention and develop skills to equip yourself once qualified
- to work in accordance with Social Work Professional Regulator’s standards and codes of conduct and behaviours
- to develop and demonstrate knowledge, skills, values and capabilities in accordance with the relevant social work professional standards you'll need to be able to demonstrate at the end of the last placement.
By the end of last placement and the completion of qualifying programmes, newly qualified social workers should have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and values to work with a range of user groups. You'll have the ability to undertake a range of tasks at a foundation level, the capacity to work with more complex situations and the ability to work more autonomously.
We make every effort to negotiate with our placement hosts to provide a range of learning experiences relevant to your needs in order to prepare you for practice after your training. You will be advised to maintain the relevant professional standards and conduct at all times to ensure client confidentiality wherever you practice your skills.
