Civil and political rights are frequently cited as the core, fundamental human rights and are found in domestic constitutions as well as regional and international human rights instruments.
This module will explore the continuing relevance of Civil and Political Rights in the light of contemporary challenges and events.
Key challenges will be used to frame the exploration of the substantive content of rights (such as the right to life and the prohibitions on torture and slavery), as interpreted by international and regional human rights bodies.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 10 hours of contact time and about 140 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
