Women and Human Rights (873M3)

Spring teaching
This module is divided into two halves.
The first half of the module consists of topics providing a theoretical framework for the study of women’s human rights. It draws on:
- feminist legal theory
- human rights theory
- anthropological and historical materials
- international and national rights instruments and documentation.
The second half of the module consists of topics focusing on the conception, implementation, adherence and breach of a specific right or related rights. Selection of the topics depends on the expertise of the lecturer taking the module, the availability of guest speakers, and the nature of world and local events in relation to women’s rights.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 298 hours of work. This breaks down into about 20 hours of contact time and about 278 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
