Upland Ecology Field Course (C1079)
15 credits, Level 5
Autumn teaching
Experience of a wide range of environments and habitats is essential training for any field biologist, ecologist or conservationist.
This module will involve a field course to the Lake District National Park in early June, providing access to a variety of upland habitats and species that you wouldn’t normally experience on the rest of their degree. This field course is a core module for Ecology & Conservation students, and not available for others.
You’ll explore the ecology of numerous habitats and identify a range of animal and plant groups to species level. You’ll also collect, analyse and interpret quantitative field data.

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 45 hours of contact time and about 105 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
