Autumn teaching
Explore the role that psychological research can play in understanding and supporting educational processes.
Workshops introduce you to material on broad theoretical perspectives of children’s learning, including cognitive development and socio-motivational factors. You’ll also examine specific aspects of children’s academic development, including key curriculum areas such as reading and mathematics.
You will be introduced to current issues and controversies in education, with the opportunity to reflect and discuss in workshops.
Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to consider the implications of psychological research for designing and implementing practical strategies to support learning and socio-emotional development in the educational context.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25.
