Children and Young People in Society: Linking Theory and Professional Skills (X3230)

Spring teaching
In this module, you will learn how children and young people’s lives are shaped by their position in society, and how professionals can work to promote rights, democracy and justice in children’s everyday lives.
Working with examples from different parts of the world, you will study approaches to theory and practice in ‘social pedagogy’ – a key professional discipline for work with children and young people in many countries. You will reflect further on the connection between theory and practice during a short placement in one of a variety of different services for children and young people.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 256 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
