Autumn teaching
This module invites you to complete a legal research project, a sustained piece of writing based on your independent research, under the guidance of a supervisor. You’ll be supported to:
- develop your research question
- present a viable plan for your research
- write up your submission, completing your project.
You’ll gain the necessary research skills to embark on your legal research project with confidence. You might expect to cover research methodology, advanced word processing, making the most of legal databases/online research and writing skills.
The module will ensure you develop key transferable skills that will serve you well in your future career. These skills include:
- independent research and learning
- effective planning and time management
- self-reflection and evaluation
- strong written communication.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 11 hours of contact time and about 139 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
