Science SKE (self-funded only)

This self-funded online Science SKE is flexible and ideal for non-specialist teachers looking to teach KS3 Science and address gaps in your knowledge.

Study a Science SKE at ßÏßÏÊÓƵ

Our Science SKE will enable you to:

  • accurately assess your own subject knowledge strengths and weaknesses
  • become familiar with the Sciences curriculum
  • use appropriate resources to address gaps in your subject knowledge
  • use your subject knowledge to plan engaging lessons and inspire further study of STEM subjects
  • plan the delivery of curriculum content so that foundational concepts and skills are mastered, before moving on to more complex content
  • anticipate misconceptions within a topic
  • identify specific disciplinary knowledge related to a particular topic, including subject-specific literacy and numeracy skills.

Course structure

The ßÏßÏÊÓƵ online Sciences SKE is available as a 100 or 200-hour self-funded course.

You will be able to choose from the following units:

  • Unit 1: KS3 Science
  • Unit 2: KS3/4 Practical Science.

You’ll be assessed through a combination of a subject knowledge audit, portfolio of evidence, an exam questions task and a consolidation task.

In addition to input from specialist subject tutors you will also receive:

    • access to a GCSE and/or A-level textbook, as well as a revision guide. 
    • a full subscription to  materials, an interactive course of videos and short assessments (relating to all three science subjects for GCSE, plus A-level materials for Chemistry)
    • a fully paid subscription to , a database of past KS3, GCSE and A-level exam questions
    • access to thousands of relevant physical and e-books through our Library
    • licensed software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro
    • access to , a huge collection of documentaries, schools TV, films and drama that you can stream for free.
