Top tips for happy researchers

Starting a doctorate can be daunting, so it's important to make the most of your first few weeks as a new researcher and familiarise yourself with the help and support available to you at Sussex.

Here's our top tips for happy researchers:

  1. Establish good habits early on
  2. Write a plan and revisit it regularly
  3. Make good use of all of the support available to you
  4. Plan your supervisory meetings
  5. Remember that your supervisor is managing a diverse workload and has limited time
  6. Write early, and write often
  7. Deal with any problems as soon as they arise
  8. Take advantage of the training available through the Researcher Development Programme
  9. Attend a one-to-one session with the Library's Research Support Team
  10. Don't forget to enjoy yourself!
